Brunner Spenglerei GmbH relies on Schröder machines

Adding special functions

Customer

Now in its fifth generation, Spenglerei Brunner in Buch, Neu-Ulm district, offers all tinsmithing work for residential and industrial buildings. An interesting new addition to the company‘s extensive machine park was added a year ago: the PowerBend Multi folding
machine from Hans Schröder Maschinenbau. (www.brunnerspenglerei.de)

Success

Spenglerei Brunner, a long-standing customer of Kaufmann Ulm Spenglereibedarf GmbH, has already purchased several machines from the Schröder Group, such as the ASK 3 manual folding machine and the PDC motorized shears. In 2020, the company invested in the SPB Evolution UD industrial folding machine, which is used to manufacture products for other companies in addition to its own projects. Around 20% of the business consists of series orders. One advantage of the SPB machine is the up-and-down
bending beam, which allows an operator to process even large sheets without assistance. The rotating clamping beam, which enables a quick changeover between different tools, is also particularly appreciated.

Other advantages

The fact that Schröder had just relaunched its standard machine was a stroke of luck when Brunner decided to purchase another, somewhat simpler folding machine in 2023. “I wanted a machine to which we could transfer the programs from the SPB, on which we could easily modify standard profiles and on which nobody had to be retrained,” says Brunner, listing some of his requirements. “We also didn‘t want to do without the advantages of a rotating clamping beam on the new machine.” The new PowerBend Multi (PBM) proved to be exactly the right folding machine for sheet thicknesses of up to 2.5 mm.

The Schröder Group thus replaced the MPB, which has enabled fast, precise series production in tinsmith companies for around 20 years. The machine manufacturer had not only made a number of improvements and enhancements, such as central crowning, but also introduced a world first: conical bending. Thanks to the twoaxis backgauge, perfectly pluggable profiles can be produced quickly, easily and with precision in the tenth of a millimeter range. Parapet or wall covers, roof edge trims, verge flashings and cladding with a gradient are examples of applications that require edges that are not parallel. “Before, we had to cut sheets to size, whereas now, with conical bending, we can assemble longer profiles very easily from several pieces that fit together – the time
saved adds up,” reports Brunner.”

Extra flexibility

Many of the standard parts such as inlet plates, chimney plates, but also façade parts and their substructures, are manufactured on the PBM. Having a second folding machine available naturally increased flexibility in the workshop, but having machines of two performance classes also proved to be an advantage in this respect. “The 300 mm high tools of the SPB are very useful, but also very heavy. The 140 mm high segments of the PBM only weigh five kilograms instead of 16, and thanks to the hydraulic clamping, tool changes are done quickly,” continues Brunner. Many workpieces are very individual, such as stainless steel chimney covers, and are not possible without segments. What is also highly appreciated about the PBM are the clearances to the rear and on the bending rail – the latter is suitable for small counter-edges. At Spenglerei Brunner, they know the particular advantages of the two folding machines and what they prefer to bend on which one. Thanks to the familiar and easy-to-operate control system, for which the Schröder Group has its own software development department, switching to the other machine is never a problem.

“We work very well with both Kaufmann and Schröder,” praises Brunner. Just how good the relationship is can be seen from the fact that Spenglerei Brunner is a reference customer for the Schröder Group. The machine manufacturer is always happy to visit Brunner with potential customers.
